ABOUT ME

My name is Jennifer and I am an 18 year old girl from California who is currently studying in New York at Parsons the New School for Design. I am majoring in Fashion Design and hope to one day be able to show my work at New York Fashion Week and establish a brand under my name.

I knew for sure that I wanted to pursue a career in fashion design because of the way that fashion helped me stand out in high school and taught me the value of individuality at a time when I was still finding myself and often felt the pressure to fit in and conform to a certain image. The self confidence that fashion gave to me transformed my attitude and outlook towards life and I am inspired to design clothing so that I can help others experience those same feelings.

I created my blog in September 2012 at the beginning of my junior year in high school as a way to start building connections in the fashion industry while also sharing my love of fashion and style with other people. The name of my blog, Art In Our Blood, comes from a quote said by my favorite literary character, Sherlock Holmes.

"Art in the blood is liable to take the strangest forms." - Sherlock Holmes
From The Greek Interpreter by Sir Athur Conan Doyle

I love the character of Sherlock Holmes because he gladly embraces his eccentricities and people similarly admire him for them. I have always thought that everyone has a little art in their blood, even if it doesn't manifest itself onto a canvas. Fashion is just one of the many ways that we can outwardly and creatively express ourselves.

I hope that you will enjoy reading my blog as my style continues to evolve and I chase after my dream career in New York City! I love getting any mail, wether it be a simple hello or a question, you can always contact me at hennafur@gmail.com!

For answers to questions I am frequently asked, feel free to read my FAQ page!

    1. I'm really happy with it; although, it would have been smarter of me to have gotten the slightly more expensive camera body that can record video and also has live view. But for outfit photos, it's sufficient! :) Thank you by the way!

    1. Hi! Thank you!! When I shop in person, I get a lot of stuff from H&M! But I do most of my shopping online, and I have a lot of clothes from Romwe, Motel Rocks, Awwdore, and eBay! A good portion of my closet also consists of vintage clothing from my parents' closets or from thrift shops! Hope this helps :)

And oh, I find that when I have a neutral expression on my face in my photos, I end up with more "useable" shots that I like verses when I smile and half of them I don't like as much xD Thank you though!

  18. Hi Jennifer ! I really really love your style! I think it's really awesome that you could be accepted into Parsons NYC in the age of 17 ! If u mind, can u tell me how u could be accepted ? Do you create a portfolio? And can u kindly feature your portfolio in your blog - if u did create one?? thankyou thankyou thankyou. Hope u would reply my comment :)x

    1. Hi Monicha, thank you! :) Yes, you need to submit an art portfolio in addition to the normal applications and essays. For the reason that I don't want others to steal my artwork and claim it as my own (and then have the authenticity of my own portfolio get questioned), I don't want to post my portfolio online, but if you check my Instagram, I did post some cropped photos of my artwork if you'd like to see! :) You can submit anything from drawings to sculptures, to photography to garments, etc. It's very open ended. But I just submitted all drawings/paintings, and one garment! There's some other artwork on my instagram, but below are just cropped photos of 2 of the pieces I ended up submitting:

      http://instagram.com/p/YWCqNOOOy8/

I'd suggest checking out the Parsons website where they will explain the application requirements in detail for you and get started on it early, so you can also take your work to National Portfolio Day and get it personally reviewed by a Parsons representative there! That way you can make your portfolio the best it can be!

  27. hello jennifer i was wondering what site your blog is on or if you bought your own domain? I was also wondering which you think is best getting my own domain or using a site like blogger or wordpress. I love how you have your blog setup!

    Replies
    1. Hi Killy! I'm sorry about the late reply; I've been so busy with my final exams recently! My blog is hosted on Blogger but I purchased my own domain on Namecheap. So in answer to your question, you can do both (get the domain you want) and still keep it hosted on either Blogger of Wordpress. And thank you! <3

      Best wishes,
      Jennifer

    2. Can i ask which you think is best? buying a domain and host it on a desired site or buy web hosting and have blogger/wordpress as your main server?? still in a predicament of what to do?? HELP

      Delete
    3. I'm a little confused by what you are asking /: With blogger/wordpress, I don't need to purchase web hosting since they do it for free. The only thing I had to purchase was my domain name. I think the other option you are describing is buying your own domain and also buying your own web hosting?

I don't have experience purchasing my own web hosting so I'm afraid I can only speak to say that I find blogger really easy to use! And it was pretty simple to update my url from artinourblood.blogspot.com to artinourblood.com

      I hope this helps! x
